Yahoo! Time Capsule: An Electronic Anthropology Project
Yahoo! Time Capsule will
for 30 days, from October 10 until November 8, [allow] Yahoo! users worldwide [to] contribute photos, writings, videos, audio – even drawings – to this electronic anthropology project. This is the first time that digital data will be gathered and preserved for historical purposes.The accumulated data will be sent to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings based in Washington D.C. for safekeeping. There are about 1405 contributions so far.
From October 25 to October 27, the contents of the Time Capsule will be projected onto the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacán, Mexico. Teotihuacán is among the most well preserved sites from antiquity, making it a time capsule itself. There will of course be a webcast. Contributors can also suggest how to split $100,000 among eight charity organizations.
