Porn Industry Prefers HD-DVD: Sony Repeats Betamax Mistake?
Many believe that porn has been a leading force in adopting and channeling technological growth from figuring out how to process credit cards cheaply over the Internet to profitably operating video sharing sites years before YouTube came along.
It's no surprise that the DVD format wars may well be decided by the porn industry. If you ask them, there's no contest: HD-DVD wins hands down. The earlier Betamax-VHS battle was decided by the industry's adoption of VHS tapes, and Sony's refusal to let the porn industry release content on Blu-ray discs may well signal its loss once again.
Blu-ray discs are also more expensive to produce and replicate. Still, things are different nowadays. Porn is readily available online so the physical packaging of porn doesn't matter as much in deciding whether to buy a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player although the balance is certainly tipping towards HD-DVD.
